The Lucky Coin is a Hardmode accessory that causes enemies to drop extra coins when damaged and grants the player +0.05 luck(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).[1]
It has a 1/2000 (0.05%) chance to be dropped by pirates (except Parrots) during Pirate Invasions, with a 1/500 (0.2%) chance from the Pirate Captain. It also has a 1/15 (6.67%) chance to be dropped by the Flying Dutchman(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
With the Lucky Coin equipped, there is a 1/5 (20%) chance that 1 to 10 extra coins will drop each time the player damages an enemy. Each time extra coins drop, the following probabilities determine the coin type:
- 89.1% chance for
Copper Coins
- 9.9% chance for
Silver Coins
- 1% chance for
Gold Coins

Notes
- On average, 1 SC22 CC will drop each time the player strikes an enemy. This represents a limit to how much extra money can be extracted from any given enemy.
- For example, using a Slime Staff against enemies with high defense (e.g. Mimic) so that the minion only does 1 damage per hit maximizes extra coin drop (see Tips section for strategies about making money with this method). In this case where a Mimic has 500 health, the Lucky Coin can add about 6 GC (on average) to the Mimic's normal drops.
- Extra coins can drop from damage caused by player-placed traps in singleplayer, but cannot in multiplayer.
- Extra coins will not drop from damage return effects, such as those provided by Turtle armor or Thorns Potion.
- In Celebrationmk10(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Get fixed boi(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) worlds, the Lucky Coin can be purchased from the Princess for 5 GC after a Pirate Invasion has been defeated.
Tips
- The Lucky Coin is very rare. It could take 33–34 complete Pirate Invasions before it drops.
- Farming for a Lucky Coin/Discount Card/Gold Ring(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) is most efficient from Flying Dutchmen(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), rather than from common pirates. After getting event progress to 50%, one can ensure 10 Flying Dutchmen per event by getting high enough above the ground (using a small platform or flying mount), but not too high, so that spawned enemies will be in the "Active Rectangle" and will despawn after 12.5 seconds, and then spawn again. Using this method, only Flying Dutchmen and Parrots can reach the player. Parrots can be killed safely as they do not count towards event progress.
- This item is generally considered to be the best way to make money in-game, when paired with a very weak weapon, usually a Slime Staff with the Broken modifier.
- To maximize profits, use the Slime Staff and Tiki armor together. Against stronger enemies (like Mimics), the Baby Slime summoned by the staff will attack rapidly, but only do 1 damage per hit. And with the Tiki armor, the player can summon even more Baby Slimes to hasten the process. This offers more chances for coins to drop. Using this tactic during a Pirate Invasion can easily produce 2–3 PC per invasion, and during a Solar Eclipse can produce 4–5 PC per eclipse.
- In Expert Mode(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), enemies have increased health which means the amount of Platinum Coins can skyrocket anywhere from 10–15 PC. However, enemies also pick up coins in Expert Mode, so letting anything escape can reduce the amount gathered dramatically.
- Another weapon option is Minishark with the Frenzying modifier. If higher damage is not an issue, any weapon with low use time will do (e.g. Chain Gun).

- The Lihzahrd Altar chamber in the Jungle Temple is also a good place to farm a steady stream of weak enemies, with occasional Mimics adding to the haul.
- Fighting weaker bosses such as the Wall of Flesh is also an option, as they will not deal much damage but have lots of health.
Trivia
- As with the Lucky Horseshoe, Deadly Sphere Staff(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), and Arcane Flower(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), it is possible to receive the Lucky modifier, giving it the name "Lucky Lucky Coin".
