The Everscream is a Hardmode, post-Plantera mini-boss that spawns during the Frost Moon event. Defeating the Everscream will add 50 / 100 / 125 points during the Frost Moon.[4] It is the Frost Moon equivalent of the Mourning Wood, which behaves in an almost identical way to the Everscream.

Behavior

The Everscream alternates between two attacks:

  • Fires a volley of pine needlespine needles at the player. This is somewhat similar to Mourning Wood's flaming wood attack, but the pine needles are fired more rapidly, deal less damage, are less accurate, do not pass through blocks, and are affected by gravity.
  • Releases several bouncing ornamentsornaments, which are affected by gravity and shatter after 5 seconds in a manner similar to Crystal Bullets, in that their shrapnelshrapnel also deals damage. These are fired in a similar but slower manner to the Mourning Wood's Greek Fire.

Notes

  • Everscreams may hover through blocks in order to reach far-away players.
  • Everscreams have a higher chance of dropping loot in later waves. See Frost Moon for more details.
  • When the Frost Moon event ends, all enemies will flee including the Everscream. Unlike other event mini-bosses such as Mothron, who are invincible when the solar eclipse event ends, Everscreams can still be harmed and killed after the event is over, showing little to no retaliation. This allows the player to easily defeat the Everscream if they are fast enough. This trait is shared by the Mourning Wood.

Tips

  • Note that most of the Everscream's attacks can easily be avoided by staying on platforms high enough above the ground, as the attacks have limited range. Attacking with any ranged or long-range melee weapon from there trivializes the fight.
  • Everscream is one of the few mini-bosses whose attacks can be shielded, as its ornament and pine needle attacks do not go through blocks.
  • Unlike Mourning Wood, Everscream's attacks do not deal increased damage after its health drops past 25%.
  • (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Everscream breaks the invincibility glitch obtained with the Slimy Saddle and two Target Dummies (except on the Nintendo Switch version Nintendo Switch version occasionally).

Trivia

  • The Everscream's pine needle attack is similar to the Razorpine that it drops.
  • Everscream is a portmanteau of evergreen and scream.
  • The Everscream and the Dark Mage(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) are the only event bosses that cannot drop a ranged weapon.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Everscream: "If trees could scream, this evil evergreen would do so constantly. Deadly are the ornaments hurled from its branches."
