The Carrot is a pet-summoning item that spawns a Pet Bunny that follows the player. The color of the bunny's fur is defined by the shirt color chosen for the character at the point of their creation. The Carrot is only available to players in the Terraria Collector's Edition, and will automatically appear in the inventory of any newly generated characters.

Notes

  • It is only available to players who have purchased the Collector's Edition of Terraria – new characters created by them will spawn with it. While it can be obtained via trading or inventory editors, players who do not have the Collector's Edition will not be able to use it.
    • However, using an inventory editor, the user can apply the pet's buff, which makes the player spawn with the Bunny pet.
  • To avoid network incompatibility, and to make updates easier, the data corresponding to the Bunny pet is present in all Desktop version Desktop and Mobile version Mobile platforms, but only players identified as owning the Collector's Edition will spawn with a Carrot and be able to use it. This effectively makes it unobtainable and unusable on the Mobile version Mobile version.
  • The Carrot can be researched, but it will still have no effect without having bought the Collector's Edition.
  • The Bunny.exe file on the Collector's Edition disc can be used to activate the Bunny pet on any of either the Steam or GOG versions of the Desktop version Desktop version.
  • On Windows Windows, it is determined via the registry whether a player is running the Collector's Edition. If the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Terraria\Bunny is set to a string value (REG_SZ) of 1 (evaluated upon startup of the game), then the Carrot will be usable and new characters will spawn with it.[1]
  • On Linux Linux or macOS macOS, if using the native version, it is determined by checking the values.xml file in ~/.mono/registry/CurrentUser/software/terraria/.
    • This must be created manually, as the Collector's Edition does not contain a script for Linux or macOS activation.
    • If using the Windows build via Wine, it is in the wine registry and can be activated by running the executable on the disc inside the wine prefix.

Trivia

  • The publisher of the Collector's Edition requested an exclusive in-game feature, so as to motivate people to purchase the more expensive physical copy instead of the digital download version of the game. To avoid unbalancing the game, Redigit chose to comply with a relatively inconsequential feature.Verify
  • If the Carrot is equipped in the pet slot, the Bunny pet will appear in the character selection menu even if the player does not have the Collector's Edition (and thus cannot summon the pet in-game).
