“Have you seen an ogre yet? I want to ride on the back of one!
The Ogre is a Hardmode mini-boss that spawns in the Old One's Army event during wave 7 in Tier 2, and waves 5 and 6 in Tier 3.
Behavior
The Ogre moves slowly towards the Eternia Crystal and attacks it and the player in the following ways:
- The Ogre will hurl out a ball
Ogre Spit into his hand before tossing it at the player. This attack is used when the Ogre is farther away from the player, and, while it only damages targets struck by the ball itself, it inflicts the Oozed debuff onto any nearby player for 15 seconds upon contact with tiles, slowing them down significantly.[2]
- When a target is within close enough proximity to the Ogre, he will occasionally jump into the air and land with a shockwave, inflicting damage in an area of about ten blocks in both directions on the ground, dealing large amounts of damage (120 / 160 / 240) and knockback.
- The last attack is a simple swing of the club, which the Ogre only does if a target is directly in front of him. This attack deals incredible damage (122 / 245 / 367 in Tier 2, or 157 / 315 / 472 in Tier 3) and extreme knockback, encouraging players to stay at a distance.

Notes
- The club swing attack of the Ogre can deal minor knockback to players equipped with Shields.
- In Tier 3, the club swing attack can kill players in one hit in Master Mode, due to its damage being 472. This is easily the most damage that can be dealt by a single attack from any of the enemies in the Old One's Army event, even surpassing all of Betsy's attacks.
Tips
- The easiest method to dodge the Ogre's jump is to either jump before he lands or to stay in the air. But make sure your jump height is enhanced (via wings or other mobility accessories) otherwise, you'll still take damage.
- Another easy way to dodge his jump attack is to fight the Old One's Army in space, where the very low gravity prolongs his jump to extreme lengths. This makes it easy to walk away before he lands.
- It is not very wise to use a platform above ground when fighting the Ogre for he may leap onto said platform when performing his leap. Despite the particles of the slam coming from the ground the Ogre's slam hitbox is still carried with him to greater heights.
- The Oozed debuff does not affect the speed of flying Mounts that are not in contact with the ground. Therefore, using the Cosmic Car Key can be really helpful when fighting.
- The Ogre has a very powerful close-range attack, so when you are fighting him you should use ranged weapons.
- Using Yoyos with the Yoyo Bag equipped can be an extremely effective method of killing the Ogre.
- It is important to deal high damage to the Ogre before he is halfway between the portal and the Eternia Crystal because he will then begin to target the crystal. His snot balls can also hit the player at this stage.
- The Ogre can be easily maneuvered around making it easy to dodge his snot ball and club swing attacks.
Trivia
- The Ogre has an Expert Mode Treasure Bag in Terraria's game files, but it is currently unobtainable as he never actually drops it.
- The Ogre only drops the Master Mode-exclusive Ogre's Club item in Tier 3 - never in Tier 2. This is in contrast to the Dark Mage, who can drop the Master Mode-exclusive Dark Mage's Tome in Tier 1 and in Tier 3.
- Other than the Master Mode-exclusive drops, the Ogre Trophy, and the Creeper Egg, all of the Ogre's loot drops are not affected by Luck, unlike most uncommon loot drops. Thus, they will always drop at their listed drop rates.[5]
- The Master Mode-exclusive drops (the Ogre's Club and the Ogre Relic) as well as the Ogre Trophy are affected by Luck, just the same as other items of their kind are. However, the Creeper Egg is affected by Luck only in Tier 3, but not in Tier 2.
- An ogre is a legendary monster usually depicted as a large, hideous, man-like being that eats ordinary human beings, especially infants and children. In mythology, ogres are often depicted as inhumanly large, tall, and have disproportionately large heads, abundant hair, unusually colored skin, a voracious appetite, and a strong body.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Ogre: "A tall, hulking demi-human from the Old One's Army with unfathomable strength and vitality. He carries a big stick."
