The Flinx Staff is a pre-Hardmode summon weapon that summons a Flinx minion. It runs towards enemies, bouncing upwards upon contact before attempting to hit its target again. Its rapid attack rate also allows its bouncing to keep it airborne atop slow flying enemies.

Its best modifiers are Mythical, Furious, or Godly. Due to its low base damage, all damage-improving modifiers +10% or greater improve its damage by the same amount. A Ruthless Flinx Staff has no lasting advantage over one with other modifiers, as it deals less knockback.

Notes

  • Flinx cannot pass through blocks and will stay in place if summoned inside blocks until having to chase the player when out of range.
  • The Flinx minion applies 10 ticks[1] of static invincibility frames upon hitting an enemy, meaning it can hit up to six times per second.
  • The Flinx, as well as the Vampire Frog and the Pirates, are the only minions capable of swimming in all liquids whilst pursuing enemies.

Tips

  • The Flinx Staff is a reliable alternative to other early-game minion-summoning weapons such as the Finch Staff and Slime Staff. Unlike them, it can be crafted using relatively common ingredients and does not require luck to obtain, although the player has to kill Snow Flinx to obtain it.
  • Like other early-game minion-summoning weapons, rapidly resummoning Flinx onto an enemy can deal damage faster.
    • The Flinx Staff's lower mana cost (5 mana) makes it more efficient than other summon weapons for this method.
  • On top of being easy to obtain, it tracks grounded enemies very well, and scales well with summon tag damage.

Trivia

  • It is the only minion-summoning weapon that consumes 5 mana instead of 10.
  • The Flinx minions appear to be purple-colored Snow Flinx with a bun of fur behind their heads.
