The Tavernkeep
Ale is a potion that grants the Tipsy debuff when consumed, which increases many of the player's stats but lowers the player's defense for two minutes. Ale can be crafted at a Keg or purchased from the Tavernkeep(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) for 1 SC each.
The Tipsy debuff has the following effects: This content is transcluded from Tipsy.
- -4 defense
- +2% critical hit on melee attacks
- +10% melee attack speed
- +10% melee damage
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) +5 Fishing Power
Ale is also used as ammunition for the Ale Tosser(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), and can therefore be stored in the player's inventory ammo slots.
Ale can be placed on a Plate(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions):

Tips
- Ale sells for 20 CC and only requires Mugs, which in turn only require 1 Glass, which is crafted from only 2 Sand each. Each unit of 2 Sand is therefore worth 20 CC if used to craft Ale. Crafting Ale can ultimately be the most profitable means of selling off Sand without incorporating other ingredients.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Conversely, buying Ale from the Tavernkeep then use Shimmer to decraft it twice can be a way to turn money into Glass without needing to collect Sand. This is a quick and sustainable way to get Bottles for potions.
- Since Tipsy is a debuff, it will be removed by the Nurse. Repeatedly consuming Ale and healing at the Nurse can be a quick and easy way to obtain the The Frequent Flyer achievement.
- The Well Fed and Plenty Satisfied(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) buffs partially negate the −4 defense penalty of Tipsy.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The highest tier of said buff, Exquisitely Stuffed, completely negates the defense penalty of Tipsy.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Consuming an Aegis Fruit will also completely negate the defense penalty due to it permanently raising defense by 4.
