The Obsidian Crate is a pre-Hardmode crate that can only be fished in lava. Opening Obsidian and Hellstone Crates is the only way to obtain the Obsidian Lock Box, and therefore any Underworld-exclusive items normally found in locked Shadow Chests, once the Underworld has been fully looted. Its Hardmode counterpart is the Hellstone Crate.

Notes

• The only way to fish the Obsidian Crate in pre-Hardmode without the Hotline Fishing Hook, or either a Lavaproof Fishing Hook or Lavaproof Tackle Bag is to use lava bait; the Hell Butterfly, Lavafly or Magma Snail.

  • Crates are now slightly less common (1/5 chance reduced to 1/6 chance).
  • Can now drop the Demonic Hellcart.
  • Reduced quantity of dropped ores from 30–49 to 20–35.
