The Red Potion is a potion which can be found in Chests in drunk worlds (1/30 (3.33%) chance), For the worthy worlds (1/10 (10%) chance) and Get fixed boi worlds. It can also be dropped by Jungle Mimics, which spawn in Celebrationmk10 and Get fixed boi worlds.

It inflicts a very large number of debuffs for 1 hour / 2 hours / 3 hours on players who consume it. In For the worthy and Get fixed boi, it instead grants up to three buffs for 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Outside of For the worthy/Get fixed boi, the Red Potion inflicts the following debuffs:[1]
  • In For the worthy/Get fixed boi, the Red Potion grants up to three of the following buffs. A random one is chosen for each checking, so one effect may be chosen multiple times, which results in fewer effects.

Tips

  • With the Ankh Charm or Ankh Shield, and any fire-immunity granting gear (primarily an Obsidian Skin Potion), it is possible to remove most of the debuffs. Although Suffocation is not removed by any of the three items, healing at the Nurse will remove it.
  • Since buffs can be transferred between worlds, loading a "For the worthy" world, drinking Red Potions there, and then returning to one's main world can be a viable strategy.

Trivia

  • The Red Potion is a testing item which was changed before the release of the 1.2.2 update to test giving ordinary players debuffs instead of buffs.
  • It replaced the Soul Scythe in the game's code when it was introduced.
  • Apart from the Flask of Gold, the Red Potion is the only potion with a golden lid.
  • It is the only potion that inflicts more than one debuff.
  • Its tooltip "'Only for those who are worthy'" was referenced by the addition of the "For the worthy" seed in 1.4.0.3, wherein the Red Potion grants buffs rather than debuffs.
  • The Red Potion directly references Redigit, Terraria's lead developer.
    • Red's set inflicted a similar set of debuffs prior to 1.3.0.1.
    • Red's set does not give immunity to debuffs from this potion or other effects.
    • The "R" on the potion's lid is a reference to its nickname.
