The Gills Potion is a buff potion which grants the Gills buff when consumed. The buff prevents the player's breath meter from depleting and thus prevents drowning. This lasts for 4 minutes, but can be canceled at any time by right-clicking the icon (Desktop version), by selecting the icon using Cycle Next/Previous Buff and then pressing Remove Buff (Console version), or by double-tapping the buff icon (Mobile version).

In addition to being crafted, Gills Potions can be found in Pots, Chests, and crates.

Notes

  • The Gills Potion will allow the player to survive while wearing a Fish Bowl.
  • In For the worthy worlds, the player cannot breathe outside of water and honey while the Gills buff is active.

Tips

  • Gills Potions are not needed for swimming in lava, as the player cannot drown in lava.

Trivia

  • The Gills Potion has the same crafting recipe as the Sonar Potion.
  • Despite the tooltip stating that the player can "breathe water instead of air", they can still breathe air (unless they are in FTW). This is because prior to 1.2, players could not breathe in the air if they used a Gills Potion. As such, this tooltip appears to be outdated.

History

  • Desktop 1.2: Gills Potions no longer cause the player to suffocate in air.
