Hello there, welcome to my page. I’m Arnoud (Verocan) and I have played Terraria for 1400 hours so far. In all this time I have found that certain challenges made the game incredibly fun for me. On this page you can find these challenges

For more experienced players these class ideas can add a new challenge. The idea is that a smaller selection of Weapons and Armor is available in order to promote the use of less used Items. This in turn, often results in unique gameplay otherwise not experienced. These classes aim to have a high correlation of used weapon types, while not having too severe power loss during any part of the progression. This holds for all sub-expert gameplay, but some classes might really struggle to progress through certain parts of expert+ difficulty. In a lot of cases there is no easy access to an early game weapon. This is intended. Use your wits to outsmart those monsters: Sand and lava hurt! And besides this, enemies do not like to be caged in. Okay enough talk, the rest is up to you!:

Note: This guide is still a work in progress. Some classes still have to be added. The classes that are shown below, however, are working as intended. Some extra notes and flavour text will be added in the future. Also, there are some similarities with the following guide: Guide:Weapon Playthroughs.

Melee Classes

Shortsword Master

Difficulty: Extreme

The Shortsword Master utilizes all Swords which have no range at all. This class has access to the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: Make sure you stack armor and regeneration. Play this as a tank class with friends backing you up. It might be possible to play this solo, but it is going to be a royal pain in the butt and you will have to get really creative to get enough Defense and Health Regeneration. It is advised to play in The Crimson for the early regeneration from the Crimson armor and also for the Fetid Baghnakhs. The Corruption does, however, provide the Worm Scarf, which is also very good.

Monster Hunter

Difficulty: Hard

The Monster Hunter utilizes all Swords that are dropped directly by monsters or bosses. This class has access to the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: Make sure to stack up on Bombs, since you probably need to make some monster farming Guide:Arena in order to get all the weapons you need. Pre-Hardmode this class is hard, but it gets easier in Hardmode.

Beam Sword

Difficulty: Normal

The Beam Sword utilizes all Swords that shoot a form of projectile when swung. This class has access to the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Yoyo Trickster

Difficulty: Easy

The Yoyo Trickster utilizes all Yoyos. This class has access to the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Weapons
  • Wooden YoyoWooden Yoyo(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • RallyRally(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • MalaiseMalaise(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • ArteryArtery(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • AmazonAmazon(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • Code 1Code 1(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • ValorValor(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • CascadeCascade(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Hardmode Weapons
  • Format:CFormat:C(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • GradientGradient(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • ChikChik(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • Hel-FireHel-Fire(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • AmarokAmarok(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • Code 2Code 2(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • YeletsYelets(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • Valkyrie YoyoValkyrie Yoyo(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • Red's ThrowRed's Throw(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • KrakenKraken(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • The Eye of CthulhuThe Eye of Cthulhu(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
  • TerrarianTerrarian(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)

Notes: This class has very strong defense for the amount of range it has. Therefore this is also an easier class. This class is also perfectly usable in a solo playthrough.

Lancer

Difficulty: Normal

The Lancer pierces enemy after enemy, until he has shish kebab. He uses the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: This class excels at keeping enemies at bay, making for a great tanking class. Its damage is also decent, especially on targets with multiple segments like the Eater of Worlds.

Boomerangs

Difficulty: Hard

The Boomerang class uses the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: The damage output of this class can be a bit low. It does feature safety in range and high armor, but might struggle to kill bosses solo. Remember that Boomerangs get increased range from Attack speed and Autoswing can be very nice for this class.

Big Balls

Difficulty: Hard

Big Balls needs only three things: His balls. This class uses flails and some big cojones to slap his enemies senseless. He uses the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: This class really has a difficult learning curve. Flails are difficult to use and have a long downtime once thrown, making the user vulnerable to counterattack.

Ranged Classes

Robin Hood

Difficulty: Easy

The name Robin Hood speaks for itself. This class may use the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: It is a very balanced class and strong throughout all parts of the game. It is however, quite squishy and therefore benefits from having a frontline tank to keep enemies at bay.

Cowboy

Difficulty: Hard

The Cowboy is the fastest gun in the wild west, or at least the one with the worst carpal tunnel. He uses all guns that lack autofire or shoot slow, because he needs to aim. These are the items he can use:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: The typical first item is The Undertaker or the Musket. Getting these can be quite challenging. Personally I prefer The Corruption for this class, as the two exclusive items fit the style better. The biggest power drop for the cowboy is early Hardmode. Here he is stuck with the Phoenix Blaster and the Dart Pistol or Dart Rifle until he kills plantera with it. To accommodate for this power drop, the cowboy has access to the frost armor, allowing a bit more tankiness during this stage. When playing this class, you better make every last shot count!

The Gunzerker

Difficulty: Normal

The Gunzerker tries to fire as many bullets as he can. He loves showering his enemies in cold hard lead. The items that the gunzerker uses are:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: Your only pre-hardmode gun is the Minishark. You get this from the Arms Dealer, which spawns after you destroy one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart and loot the gun that drops from it. This can be achieved by going into the respective biome and bringing some bombs.

Shotgun

Difficulty: Hard

The Shotgun has given up all requirements to aim. He just wants to shoot and be done with it. He uses the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: Getting the first shotgun from the underground jungle chests is a royal pain in the ass. After that, this class can hold its own. You can consider using the Ale Tosser in the early game, as you clearly have to be drunk to go into the underground jungle without a weapon!

This is a gun?

Difficulty: Normal

This class uses all "Guns" that, well, aren't as much of a gun. It can use the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Magic Classes

Harry Potter

Difficulty: Easy

Harry Potter uses, yes you guessed it: Wands. He can use all of the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: With the high amount of weapons to choose from this class has an answer for almost all problems. Because of its smooth power curve it can help bridge the power gap of some other classes.

Magic Guns

Difficulty: Normal

This class can use the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Magic Guns
Hardmode Magic Guns

Notes: Typically the first weapon will be the Space Gun. The way to get this is by destroying a Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart and then wait for a meteor to fall. Mining the Meteorite requires a Tungsten Pickaxe or better. Don’t forget to bring an Obsidian Skull or an Obsidian Skin Potion, otherwise you might have a bad time!

The Author

Difficulty: Hard

The Author is the original publisher of all the magic works. He knows the content of all magical spell books and makes most of the ancient spells contained within. He can use the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: Getting a Water Bolt early on is no longer possible. That means the first obtainable real weapon is the Demon Scythe, which can be farmed in The Underworld from Demons and Voodoo Demons. Doing this with only Sand Blocks is an arduous task. If you manage it, however, you will have a solid playthrough afterwards. Luckily you have your trusty Baby Finch (that you became friends with while reading your books in the garden) to protect you in the beginning. You can find the Finch Staff in Living Wood Chests.

Magic Other

Difficulty: Medium

Items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: While having a difficult early-game, this class scales up extremely well and has access to the most unique magic weapons in the game. This allows for a wide variety of playstyles and allows the player to approach combat in different ways. This class combines well with classes that have access to an early weapon.

Frost Mage

Difficulty: Normal

The Frost Mage cools his enemies down to sub zero. He can use the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Inferno

Difficulty: Hard

The Inferno just wants to set the world on fire. He uses the following items to do so:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: You have to play in The Corruption to get two of your hardmode weapons (Cursed Flames and Clinger Staff.

Vampire (Untested)

Difficulty: Hard

The vampire harvests the blood from his enemies to drain them of their lifeforce, becoming an unstoppable force of death and decay.

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: Obviously a Vampire only feels at home in a crimson world.

Summoning Classes

To be added

Special Classes

Ninja (Untested)

Difficulty: Normal

The Ninja is all about throwing stuff at his enemies, while looking sharp. He can use the following items:

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Mr. Torgue

Difficulty: Extreme

Mr. Torgue loves EXPLOSIONS, he wants them, he NEEDS them. Nothing shall be left unexploded! Why? Because EXPLOSIONS ARE BADASS THAT'S WHY! He uses the following EXPLOSIVES (and armor):

Pre-Hardmode Armor
Hardmode Armor
Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Hardmode Weapons

Notes: You need to get creative with your Guide:Arena for the later bosses up to Plantera, as she drops your first real weapon: the Grenade Launcher. You will probably kill yourself often, BUT MR TORGUE NEVER GIVES UP! EXPLOSIONS!
