The Laser Machinegun is a Hardmode, post-Golem magic gun that has a 1/6 (16.67%) chance of being dropped by the Martian Saucer during the Martian Madness event. When used, it fires two inaccurate blue lasers that do not pierce enemies or pass through blocks. While firing, it will charge up for roughly two seconds before greatly increasing its fire rate.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Notes

  • The Laser Machinegun is not affected by attack speed modifiers.
  • At full speed, the weapon fires every 6 ticks,[1] or 20 shots per second.
  • Once the player starts firing the Laser Machinegun, its damage will not update with changes to the player's damage stats, which means Mana Sickness debuff will not reduce its damage if the player uses Mana Potions while already firing the weapon.

Tips

  • Due to its long wind-up time, it is much more efficient to use Mana Potions with this weapon instead of Mana Regeneration Potions.
  • This weapon's projectiles continue traveling very far off-screen. Thus, it can be used to slowly but safely destroy the Celestial Pillars whose barriers have been dropped.
  • It is possible to fire the Laser Machinegun through a one-block wall if the player is standing right next to it.
  • Using this weapon against Duke Fishron is very effective. Due to his size, all the projectiles of the Laser Machinegun can reliably hit. Its rapid-fire also pops most of the Detonating Bubbles that Duke Fishron uses.

Trivia

  • Though it is named after a machine gun, the Laser Machinegun's spinning barrel makes it more similar to a Gatling gun.
  • In the trailer for 1.3, it is shown being wielded by a player wearing Vortex armor. This may imply that it was once a ranged weapon.
