The Tactical Shotgun is a Hardmode, post-Plantera gun that has a 1/12 (8.33%) / 23/144 (15.97%) chance of being dropped by Tactical Skeletons in the Hardmode Dungeon. When used, it fires six bullets in a spread, consuming one piece of ammunition.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Tips

The Tactical Shotgun can be considered an upgrade to the Shotgun.
Various types of bullets work well with the gun:
- Crystal Bullets are effective against crowds of enemies since they create two shards each, for a total of twelve shards per round.
- Chlorophyte Bullets remove the shot spread's inaccuracy. Nano Bullets can also be used as a much cheaper alternative.

Trivia

The Tactical Skeleton's shotgun in the sprite does not appear to have the drum magazine or scope, making it more closely resemble the Shotgun. Additionally, while the Tactical Shotgun is automatic, the Tactical Skeleton seems to wield a significantly slower, semi-automatic version.
The Tactical Shotgun is one of the 11 guns in Terraria based on a real gun, the others being the Chain Gun, Flintlock Pistol, Handgun, Musket, Quad-Barrel Shotgun, Red Ryder, Revolver, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, and Uzi.
