Animation of the Handgun.

The Handgun is a pre-Hardmode gun that shoots bullets rather quickly, although it does not autofire. It is superior in both damage and speed to the Flintlock Pistol. The Handgun has a 1/7 (14.29%) chance of being obtained from Locked Gold Chests in the Dungeon, and, on the  Desktop version,  Console version, and  Mobile version, from Golden Lock Boxes found in Dungeon Crates or Stockade Crates.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Notes

• The Dungeon will generally contain 1-2 Handguns.
• The internal code for generating dungeon chests fills chests with different items in order of their distance to the Dungeon's entrance, with the Handgun being the last item on the list before it starts over. As such, if a dungeon has more than 9 or 10 chests, one will always have the Handgun.

Tips

• It is recommended to upgrade the Handgun to the Phoenix Blaster as soon as possible, as it gives (Desktop version) 4 / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 7 additional damage, and increases its velocity by 3.
• (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Since Hellstone can be obtained pre-boss (if the Reaver Shark is obtained early on), one can easily upgrade to the Phoenix Blaster.
