Using the Hel-Fire to attack a Target Dummy.

The Hel-Fire is a Hardmode yoyo that has a 1/400 (0.25%) chance of being dropped by any enemy in or near The Underworld. It inflicts the Hellfire debuff for 3–8 seconds upon hit.

Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. However, Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has very high critical strike chance.

Notes

  • The Hel-Fire can be only dropped from enemies killed in the lower third of the area between the beginning of the Cavern layer and the true bottom world border.[1]
  • Like the Amarok, Cascade, Kraken, and Yelets, the Hel-Fire will only drop from enemies that also drop at least 1 CC. Therefore, it cannot drop from statue-spawned enemies, since they never drop coins.
  • The Hel-Fire replaces the Cascade, which will no longer be dropped in Hardmode.

Tips

  • While not as powerful as the Amarok, Hel-Fire is arguably easier to acquire (as the Underworld is initially unaffected by entering Hardmode) and can be a great early-Hardmode option for yoyo users or melee players in general.
  • Using the Hel-Fire while wearing Frost armor allows the player to inflict both the Hellfire and Frostbite debuffs on enemies. Damage over time can be further increased with the Flask of Cursed Flames and an occasional Shadowflame Knife.
