A player throwing a Toxic Flask at Target Dummies.

The Toxic Flask is a Hardmode, post-Plantera magic weapon that throws a flask with low velocity and a heavy arc that explodes into a cluster of small, damaging toxic clouds upon colliding with an enemy or surface. The clouds last for one to two seconds and cannot pass through blocks. The Toxic Flask has a 1/40 (2.5%) / 79/1600 (4.94%) chance to be dropped from Dr. Man Flies during the Solar Eclipse event.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Tips

  • The Toxic Flask is similar to the Inferno Fork, with its lingering projectiles and low velocity. While the Flask can potentially deal more damage, it has a higher mana cost and very limited vertical range.
  • While the Toxic Flask excels against crowds of enemies, it is usually less effective against single resilient enemies like bosses.
  • A single cloud will instantly disappear each time the weapon damages an enemy, which may or may not limit effectiveness depending on how many enemies are within the spread.

Trivia

  • The Toxic Flask, Molotov Cocktail, and the Ale Tosser are the only weapons to feature a thrown bottle/glass projectile.
    • It is the only magic weapon to have this property.
  • Being a magic weapon, despite having "Flask" in its name, it is in no way related to the buff-granting Flasks and shares no other similarities.

History

  • Desktop 1.4.4:
    • Damage increased from 46 to 52.
    • Usetime increased from 28 to 45.
    • Flask projectile speed/distance increased from 9 to 14.
    • Received a visual overhaul to make the gas clouds more "gassy".
    • Projectiles now linger substantially longer than before.
    • Projectiles no longer penetrate walls, but will now "spread out" around a region, slightly pushing away from each other to fill a small area of space. This results in a more concentrated area of gas clouds, with less wasted to being stuck in walls or the floor.
