The Nettle Burst is a Hardmode, post-Plantera magic weapon that casts a 24-tile-long snaking vine projection that lingers for several seconds, passes through solid blocks, and pierces an unlimited number of enemies. The Nettle Burst scores a rapid succession of up to nine hits to damaged enemies (compared to the Vilethorn's seven hits), and each hit delivers the weapon's full damage while inflicting a knockback value of 1 (Extremely weak), locking them in place and dealing over 250 total damage to any target that remains in the thorn's affected area for the vine's entire duration. On the  Desktop version,  Console version, and  Mobile version, the Nettle Burst also has 10 armor penetration, similar to that of the Crystal Vile Shard. The Nettle Burst has a (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 1/7 (14.29%) / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 1/6 (16.67%) chance of being dropped by Plantera.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Tips

• Its ability to pass through solid blocks and pierce unlimited enemies allows players to wall themselves off from most threats and still deal damage, or hit worm-type enemies while they are inside walls. Its infinite piercing property is also useful against enemies with multiple parts or minions, such as The Destroyer.
• Compared to the Vilethorn, the Nettle Burst deals a little over twice damage, affects an area twice as long, lingers for a slightly longer period, and has a slightly faster use time. Due to the way defense and armor penetration work, however, this doubling in damage results in significantly more damage against Hardmode enemies that would otherwise reduce the Vilethorn's damage to 1.
