Animation of the Revolver.

The Revolver is a pre-Hardmode gun that can be purchased from the Traveling Merchant for 15 GC after a Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart has been smashed. Firing the Revolver just as it comes off cooldown will gradually increase its attack speed (up to 100%) and critical strike chance (up to 20%). This effect will not be triggered if the player is autofiring the weapon.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Notes

  • On each tick[1] where the Revolver's itemAnimation is greater than zero and the player is not pressing Use / Attack, the following things happen:[2]
    • Its itemAnimation will be decremented by an additional 1. This means the weapon can fire for up to twice as fast if the player perfectly spaces out their attacks, while accounting for this reduced animation.
    • Its critical strike chance will be increased by 1%, eventually capping out at a total 20% increase.
  • The Revolver's critical strike chance bonus has a 1/3 (33.33%) chance to be reduced by 2% on each tick if any of following conditions are met:[2]
    • The player is pressing Use / Attack during the weapon's attack.
    • The weapon's itemAnimation has reached zero.
    • The player is not holding the Revolver.
  • In the Desktop version Desktop version, Console version Console version, and Mobile version Mobile version, the Traveling Merchant uses it to defend himself, but will switch to a Pulse Bow once the world is in Hardmode.

  1. A tick is a time unit countable by the software. Most of Terraria's updating logic happens every tick. A tick has the length of 1/60th of a second, hence there are 60 ticks in a second and 3600 ticks in a minute.
