Cascade's animation while inflicting the On Fire! debuff.

The Cascade is a pre-Hardmode-only, post-Skeletron yoyo that has a 1/400 (0.25%) chance of being dropped by any enemy in or near The Underworld. Once Hardmode begins, it will no longer drop, being replaced by the Hel-Fire. Upon enemy hits, it has a 1/3 (33.33%) chance to inflict the On Fire! debuff for 1–4 seconds.

Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. However, Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has very high critical strike chance.

Notes

  • The Cascade can only drop from enemies killed in The Underworld or within the 150 tiles directly above it.[1]
  • Like the Amarok, Hel-Fire, Kraken, and Yelets, the Cascade will only drop from enemies that also drop at least 1 CC. Therefore, it cannot drop from statue-spawned enemies, since they never drop coins.

Achievements

Achievement Throwing Lines.png
Throwing Lines • “Throw a yoyo.”
Throw a yoyo for the first time. (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
Category: Challenger Challenger

Tips

  • When used, it will emit embers which can be used as a light source stemming 6 blocks away (13×13 tiles sized light; 6 tiles from all sides, excluding the source).

Trivia

  • The name Cascade comes from one of the many different yoyos sold by One Drop YoYos One drop logo.png. Their logo is the symbol listed at the bottom of the item's tooltip. There is a notable difference in color, though: While the real-life original is light blue, the Cascade appears to look like a CODE2 Dragon Slayer.
  • It is one of the only weapons that becomes completely unobtainable in Hardmode, the other being the Gray Zapinator.

  1. Information taken from the Desktop version Desktop 1.4.4.9 source code, method YoyoCascade() in Terraria.Content.ItemDropRules.Conditions.cs. The Cascade drops from enemies killed within 350 tiles of the true bottom world border, and The Underworld always comprises the bottom 200 tiles of this area.
