The Thunder Zapper is a pre-Hardmode wand that can be found in Sandstone Chests in the lower 3/7ths of the Underground Desert and in Oasis Crates and Mirage Crates obtained from fishing in the Oasis. When used, it fires a lightning bolt that travels in a zigzag pattern horizontally (but traveling straight when shooting directly up or down). The bolt dissipates with a visual explosion after traveling for about one second or upon hitting an enemy or a block.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Tips

  • Due to its medium mana cost and its fast fire rate, it outclasses even the highest-tier gem staffs in single-target DPS. However, it lacks piercing and requires visiting a dangerous biome. It can more safely be obtained from fishing in an Oasis.
  • The bolt's zigzag motion allows some unusual trajectories, e.g. through a half-tile gap.
  • In Don't dig up worlds, the Thunder Zapper can be obtained from the lower Chests that spawn below the Underground Desert walls with much less risk.
  • If a Sandstone Chest contains a Storm Spear or Bast Statue as its primary item, the player is low enough to obtain the Thunder Zapper. Otherwise, they need to travel lower still.
