The Copper Shortsword is a pre-Hardmode shortsword. Newly created characters spawn with a Copper Shortsword (Iron Shortsword in Journey Mode).

Its alternate ore counterpart is the Tin Shortsword.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Trivia

  • The uselessness of the Copper Shortsword, even at the beginning of the game which it is supposedly suited for, has earned it "memetic" status within the Terraria community. For instance, on videos of people completing challenges in Terraria such as unusual boss fights or speedruns, comments saying "Now do it with a Copper Shortsword!" are not a rare sight, to make the seemingly impossible challenge even more ridiculous, although completely possible in some cases.
  • The Copper Shortsword in the Zenith's recipe represents the beginning of the player's journey.
  • A Broken Copper Shortsword deals 3 damage, making it the weapon with the second-lowest damage in the game, following the Broken Wooden Hammer, which deals 1 damage.

  • Desktop 1.4.1: Copper Bars needed to craft decreased from 7 to 5.
  • Desktop 1.0.5:
    • Damage decreased from 6 to 5.
    • Newly created characters will now spawn with a Copper Shortsword.
