The Flameburst Rod, Cane, and Staff are special sentry summon weapons. They can summon the Flameburst Tower sentry, which lasts for  10 minutes/ 2 minutes, remains stationary, and does not count against the player's minion capacity. Each Flameburst Tower fires fireballs at approaching enemies, which are non-piercing but can cause splash damage on impact and have a chance to inflict the On Fire! or Hellfire debuff. Unlike other projectile sentries, the Flameburst Tower is unable to aim and shoot upward at an angle greater than 45°; flying enemies are therefore ignored when they fly above it. The Rod is sold by the Tavernkeep for 50000*5 Defender Medal, the Cane for 150000*15 Defender Medal, and the Staff for 600000*60 Defender Medal.

The Rod is always available. The Cane becomes available after defeating one mechanical boss, and the Staff becomes available after defeating Golem. The three different versions cause an identical effect, but with varying statistics, with the Staff being the most expensive and the most powerful.

These weapons cannot be used outside of the Old One's Army event until the event has been successfully completed. Completing the event on any difficulty allows Rods, Canes, and Staves alike to be used outside of the event.

During the Old One's Army event, Etherian Mana can be collected, which allows the placement of multiple Flameburst Towers that remain permanently until the event is over. Etherian Mana cannot be used outside the event.

Flameburst Tower sentries are boosted by the Apprentice armor and Dark Artist armor set bonuses, which dramatically increase their range, field of view, and projectile velocity. The Dark Artist armor will also boost the explosion radius of the sentries' projectiles.

Their best modifier is Ruthless. The Mythical modifier provides the widest array of stat bonuses, but these primarily affect the initial summon rather than the resulting minion. Additionally, minions cannot deal critical hits. The only lasting advantage a Mythical Flameburst sentry summons has over a Ruthless one is knockback.

    Notes

    • Completing the Old One's Army event on any difficulty sets a hidden attribute for both the world it was completed on and the character who completed it. Any characters, including newly made ones, who visit that world may then use Rods, Canes, and Staves on any world. The character who completed the event may also use Rods, Canes, and Staves on any world.
    • The Flameburst Towers' projectiles will explode on impact, damaging enemies within a 6×6-tile rectangle centered on the impact location. When wearing the Dark Artist armor, this area will be increased to a 13×13-tile rectangle area.[1]
    • The Flameburst Tower has a cooldown of 1.33 seconds (Rod) / 1.17 seconds (Cane) / 1 second (Staff) after attacking.[2]
    • The Flameburst Tower only fires at enemies that are 56.25 tiles or less away, measured from the "mouth" shooting the projectiles. If the player has the Apprentice armor or Dark Artist armor equipped, this limit is increased to 84.375 tiles.[3]

    Tips

    • Since the Flameburst Tower inflicts On Fire! / Hellfire, it pairs well with the Explosive Trap sentries when wearing Huntress or Red Riding armor, as they inflict the damage-boosting Oiled debuff.
    • The Flameburst Tower lacks the crowd control of the Lightning Aura and the piercing power and strength of the Ballista. However, with the Apprentice armor or Dark Artist armor, the Flameburst Tower can cover a huge range and hit more accurately than Ballistas. A large cluster of set-boosted Flameburst Towers in the center of the Old One's Army arena can defend from both sides simultaneously with ease.
    • The Flameburst Tower emits light, therefore it can be useful when exploring caves to locate undiscovered sections.
