The Tactical Skeleton is a rare Hardmode, post-Plantera enemy that spawns in the Dungeon after Plantera is defeated. Once the player is within its line of sight, the Tactical Skeleton remains stationary before firing volleys of four bullets at them that deal immense damage.

It is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or its upgrades.

The Tactical Skeleton spawns most often in areas of the Dungeon backed by Tiled Walls, along with Hell Armored Bones and Diabolists. Removing these naturally occurring back walls will prevent these enemies from spawning, but they can be respawned by placing Cursed Dungeon Tiled Walls. These areas can further be identified by the presence of Diabolic Sigils and Molten Legion Flags, but these banners are purely indicative and do not influence spawning.

Trivia

  • As it drops the SWAT Helmet, the Tactical Skeleton seems to be modeled as an undead SWAT unit, which is reinforced by its Bestiary description.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Tactical Skeleton: "With thick armor and mighty boomsticks, it's clear these bones are prepared for a siege. Part of an elite military unit in their past lives."
  • The weapon wielded by it actually resembles the SPAS-12, which is otherwise never seen in-game. Neither the Boomstick mentioned in the Bestiary nor the Tactical Shotgun dropped by the Tactical Skeleton appear in the enemy's sprite.
