(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The Excalibur attacking
Target Dummies. Note how it only hits three of the four Target Dummies.
(Old-gen console and 3DS versions) The Excalibur attacking a Target Dummy.
The Excalibur is a Hardmode sword which is capable of autoswing and can be crafted with Hallowed Bars. When swung, it emits yellow light particles typical of the Hallowed theme. It can be upgraded into the True Excalibur.
On the Desktop version, Console version, and Mobile version, the sword has a large aura of bright yellow energy around the blade when swung, which significantly increases the range at which the weapon can deal damage to enemies, including coverage behind the player. If an enemy is struck by the blade or its aura, a yellow flash is created.
Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes
- The player is unable to turn while swinging the Excalibur, similar to the War Axe of the Night and The Breaker.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Unlike regular broadswords, the Excalibur can only hit up to three targets per swing.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The Excalibur will always knock enemies away from the player, regardless of the direction it is swung.
Tips
- The Excalibur can be swung while walking backwards, which is useful for knocking back enemies during retreat.
- Unmodified Excalibur sells for slightly less than the Hallowed Bars required to make it (4 GC60 SC vs. 4 GC80 SC), but since the random modifiers increase a melee weapon price by 11.2% on average, crafting and selling Excaliburs in bulk is still about 6.6% more profitable.
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) A better option is to craft several Excaliburs, sell the good ones as-is, and upgrade the worse ones into True Excaliburs (which is a good use of surplus Broken Hero Swords, as noted on their page).
Trivia
- Prior to patch 1.2, the Excalibur was the strongest sword in the game.
- Excalibur is the mythical sword of King Arthur from Arthurian legends. While some sources conflate Excalibur with the "Sword In The Stone" by which Arthur proved his kingship, more reliable sources have them as two separate swords. (Excalibur is later given to Arthur by the Lady In The Lake.) In Terraria, the Sword In The Stone is separately represented by the Enchanted Sword item.
- The Enchanted Sword enemy shares the Excalibur's sprite design.
- The Excalibur on the Desktop version, Console version, and Mobile version has better stats than the Tizona, a sword crafted from the Excalibur on the Old-gen console and 3DS releases (where the Excalibur itself is considerably weaker).
