The Mystic Frog is a critter that has a 1/30 (3.33%) chance of spawning in place of an ordinary Frog in the Jungle. The Mystic Frog has only 5 health and no defense, and can be damaged by other enemies and players.

Unlike most critters, the Mystic Frog cannot be caught with a Bug Net, which means there is no craftable cage for it.

If the player throws Purification Powder on it, it will transform into the Mystic Slime town pet. Afterwards, the Mystic Frog will no longer spawn. If the Mystic Slime is killed, it will respawn naturally without the need to purify another Mystic Frog. Only one Mystic Frog can be alive at a time.

It is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer or its upgrades.

Notes

  • Attempting to catch a Mystic Frog with any Bug Net will cause it to teleport to a random location nearby. If there are no valid teleportation spots, it will disappear in a puff of smoke, similar to statue-spawned critters.[1]

Trivia

  • As of 1.4.4.9, the Mystic Frog has the highest NPC ID.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Mystic Frog: "A curious frog with a funny hat, surrounded by potent magic! Perhaps something can break its curse... you probably shouldn't kiss it!"

History

  • Desktop 1.4.4.8:
    • Chance of replacing a normal Frog increased from 1/50 (2%) to 1/30 (3.33%).
    • Now attempts to teleport away when a player tries to catch it with a Bug Net.
    • Changed Bestiary entry from "A curious frog with a funny hat, wandering around the Jungle! There is more than meets the eye with this slimy amphibian..." to "A curious frog with a funny hat, surrounded by potent magic! Perhaps something can break its curse... you probably shouldn't kiss it!"
