The Fire Imp is a caster enemy found only in the The Underworld. It fires Burning Spheres, which travel through blocks and have a 1/3 (33.33%) chance to inflict the On Fire! debuff. The Burning Spheres can easily be destroyed by hitting them with any weapon, minion, or damage-dealing tool or pet.

Like all casters, the Fire Imp will follow the pattern of firing three times, pausing for several seconds, and teleporting to another location on the screen.

Notes

  • Fire Imps require a target space of at least four vertical air spaces and three horizontal air spaces to teleport into a location. Despite this, they only need three vertical air spaces and two horizontal ones to spawn.
  • Fire Imps spawn more frequently as long as there are less than four other enemies on the screen.

Tips

  • The Fire Imp can be stunlocked with many different minions, as their repeated attacks prevent it from firing.
  • The Fire Imp spawns more frequently when there are less than four other enemies on the screen. They also spawn more when in Pre-Hardmode. Verify

Trivia

  • The Fire Imps dropping the Plumber's Hat may be a reference to Mario's ability to shoot fireballs when getting a Fire Flower power-up, similar to the Burning Spheres that Fire Imps shoot. This is further supported by the Obsidian Rose that they drop, which references the Fire Flower power-up.
  • Fire Imps could originally drop a Green Cap in the Mobile version Mobile version. Since an unknown update, this is no longer the case.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Fire Imp: "A lesser demon imbued with hell magic. Capable of teleporting and hurling phantom fireballs towards their foes."
