The Groom is a zombie variant that appears during a Blood Moon or very rarely at any time in a Graveyard(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) biome. He acts the same as normal Zombies, slowly walking towards the player to deal contact damage, while attempting to navigate around obstacles and opening doors if they are in the way. He has greater health than most other Zombies, and is dressed in a tuxedo and top hat.

He does not have any variants, nor does he have an Armed variation in Expert Mode(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). The Bride(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) is his marriage counterpart.

He is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or its upgrades. The Groom requires 10 kills to be awarded completion of his Bestiary entry and corresponding banner, as opposed to the usual 50 kills.

Notes

  • Due to the increased variation of enemy types that appear during Hardmode, The Groom will have a lesser chance of spawning.

Trivia

  • The Groom drops the Top Hat, while the other two pieces of the Tuxedo set are crafted using Silk and Black Thread.
  • Following a Discord message where Redigit jokingly answered a Discord user's question of "who are the angler's parents" with "they ded", a Reddit user declared "officially starting" a theory of the Groom and the Bride being the Angler's parents, to which Redigit, likewise jokingly, replied "This is now canon."[1]
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for The Groom: "Tall, handsome, and dead. This unlucky fellow did not survive his wedding and is ready to take it out on everyone."

History

  • Desktop 1.4.1: Drop chance of Bloody Tear increased from 1/9 (11.11%) to 1/5 (20%).
