Not to be confused with Giant Cursed Skull.

The Cursed Skull (and the Dragon Skull on Old-gen console version Old-gen console and 3DSNintendo 3DS version) is a flying enemy found only in the Dungeon. It is similar to the Meteor Head, with high damage, slow speed, and the ability to travel through tiles. It floats slowly towards the player, occasionally stopping to float in a circle around them for a while, before suddenly lunging forward to attack, similar to the Eye of Cthulhu. When striking a player, the Cursed Skull has a decent chance to apply the Cursed debuff. This renders the player unable to use items, including weapons, potions, and hooks, making it very difficult to avoid further damage.

They are much more likely to appear in Dungeon areas where there are Brick Walls.

Tips

  • Cursed Skulls can be attacked through walls with melee weapons. Weapons with long range or can attack through blocks like spears or the Vilethorn work well. This may, however, result in drops being trapped inside of walls beyond the player's reach. However, this can be alleviated simply by mining into the wall or with items such as the Treasure Magnet(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
  • Cursed Skulls and Dragon Skulls can, rather rarely, drop more than 3 (6) Bones when defeated.
  • Cursed Skulls are effective enemies to farm for the Nazar since they spawn more often than the few other enemies that also drop it. This should preferably be done in Pre-Hardmode, since it is more difficult to obtain in Hardmode, especially when more enemy varieties start to spawn in the post-Plantera Dungeon.

Trivia

  • After Plantera is defeated, a similar and stronger enemy will spawn, the Giant Cursed Skull.
  • The Cursed Skull is likely a reference to the Bubble enemy from the action-adventure video game series The Legend of Zelda, who inflicts the same debuff.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Cursed Skull: "Exposed to dark rituals, this skull has begun floating around on its own, chasing the living. Its touch leaves its victims defenseless."
