The Giant Fungi Bulb is a Hardmode enemy found in Glowing Mushroom biomes both above and below the surface. They act similar to Man Eaters and Snatchers, but have a longer reach and launch Fungi Spores towards the player, dealing high damage. Fungi Spores fly towards their target, breaking upon contact with blocks, and glide downward in a serpentine pattern. They can be destroyed by one hit with any weapon or damage-inflicting tool.
Notes
- Giant Fungi Bulbs cycle between two behavior states:[1]
- A "normal" state, where they can extend up to 21.9 tiles away from their anchor block. This state lasts for 5 seconds.
- An "extended" state, where their maximum reach is increased to 28.4 tiles. It lasts for 2.5 seconds.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) If given line of sight to the player, Giant Fungi Bulbs will fire spores once every 2.5 seconds.[1]
- Hitting Giant Fungi Bulbs will reset their attack cooldown back to 2.5 seconds, making it easy to prevent them from attacking by repeatedly hitting them.
- In Expert Mode, the Fungi Spores move more erratically.[2]
- Like all creatures than can pass through blocks, the Giant Fungi Bulb is immune to lava.
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Destroying the block a Giant Fungi Bulb is attached to will kill it instantly without dropping any loot.
Tips
- If the bulb is covered by solid blocks, it will not fire any spores. This is good to keep in mind when the enemy is trying to attack from far away.
- Despite being small, spores deal more damage than the bulb itself, so players should be wary of them.
Trivia
- The
Bestiary entry for the Giant Fungi Bulb: "When the glowing fungus is ready to spread, these bulbs will sprout to spread its spores to other locations and hosts."
