Most naturally spawned Gem Squirrels can be caught with a Bug Net, and carried in the player's inventory (or placed in [[storage]]). If a squirrel caught with any Bug Net is taken from inventory and "used" (placed), it is again released into the environment at the cursor and behaves as usual.

Gem Squirrels are harmless critters that only spawn in the cavern layer, and have a higher spawn chance during rains.[1]

Gem Squirrels have only 5 health and no defense, and can be damaged by other enemies and players.

Gem Squirrels can be caught with any Bug Net to be carried around in the inventory and released later, or crafted into animated decorative furniture (Gem Squirrel Cages). Once crafted, the Gem Squirrels cannot be released again, unless the furniture item is de-crafted via Shimmer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).

Notes

  • Although Gem Squirrels represent various different gem types, they all sell for 10 SC.

Tips

  • The best way to spawn any Gem Squirrel is to make a town in the cavern layer. Same as other critters, they will spawn more frequently around NPCs.

Trivia

  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for Gem Squirrels: "Glistening squirrels who strayed too deep become ensorcelled with residual cursed energy retained in gemstones."
