This is the main page whose information applies to the Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions of Terraria.
For the differences of this information on Old-gen console and 3DS, see Legacy:Mummies.

Mummies are Hardmode enemies that spawn in the Desert biome and areas where Sand Blocks are present. They follow the Fighter AI, behaving similarly to Zombies.

There are several different types of Mummies: the standard Mummy, as well as the Dark Mummy, Light Mummy, and Blood Mummy. They spawn in Corrupted Deserts, Hallowed Deserts and Crimson Deserts, respectively.

Dark Mummies and Blood Mummies are 150% faster than other Mummies. All mummies receive a 200% speed increase when they are reduced to 50% health or lower. In addition, Mummies inflict the following debuffs upon hitting the player:

Notes

Tips

  • Dark, Blood and Light Mummies can easily be farmed for their shards by making a section of Desert evil or Hallow, or making an artificial Desert. All that is necessary is a one-block-high stretch of Pearlsand, Ebonsand, or Crimsand.

Trivia

  • Dark Mummies and Blood Mummies can drop the Megaphone and Blindfold at the same time. With a drop rate of 1% / 1.99% each, the chance of both items dropping at once is 0.01% or 0.0396%.
  • The mummies in Terraria are bound incorrectly: In Ancient Egypt, the feet of the mummies were bound together and their hands were bound on their sides. However, in Terraria (and almost every other fictional work), the hands and feet of the mummies are unbound so that they can move freely.

BestiaryBestiary entries

  • Mummy, Dark Mummy, and Light Mummy: "With the sands transmogrified by outside forces, those put to rest in the desert, whether good or evil, now rise to maim and kill."
  • Blood Mummy: "The blood-dripping organic matter in these mummies display far better preservation than the rest of their ilk."

History

  • Desktop 1.4.0.1:
    • Added the Blood Mummy, which now replaces the Dark Mummy in Crimson Deserts, making the latter Corruption-exclusive.
    • Sprites updated. Old sprites: Mummy (pre-1.4.0.1).png Dark Mummy (pre-1.4.0.1).png Light Mummy (pre-1.4.0.1).png
    • The Light Mummy can no longer drop the Blessed Apple.
    • Increased the drop rates of the Blindfold and Megaphone from 51/10,000 (0.51%) / 10,149/1,000,000 (1.01%) to 1/100 (1%) / 199/10,000 (1.99%) each. They are no longer dependent upon one another and are instead now treated as normal, independent item drops like most others.
  • Desktop 1.3.0.1:
    • Dark and Light Mummies can now drop their own respective banner.
    • The Light Mummy now has a 0.5% chance of dropping the Blessed Apple.
  • Desktop 1.2.3: The Blindfold and Megaphone are no longer always dropped together. There is now a 1/100 (1%) chance that either one is dropped, then an additional 1/100 (1%) chance that the other one is dropped. As a result, the effective drop rates of the two items were reduced from 1/100 (1%) to 51/10,000 (0.51%) each. The probability of both being dropped at the same time is now only 1/10,000 (0.01%) per Dark Mummy kill.
  • Desktop 1.2:
    • Added multiple new drops for Mummies:
    • Dark Mummies can now also spawn in Crimson Deserts if the world was generated with Crimson.
  • Console-Release: Introduced normal, Light, Dark, Spectral, and Shadow Mummies.
  • Mobile 1.3.0.7:
    • Removed Shadow Mummy and Spectral Mummy.
    • Normal Mummies can no longer spawn in pre-Hardmode via smashing Pyramid pots.
  • Mobile-Release: Introduced normal, Light, Dark, Spectral, and Shadow Mummies.
  • 3DS-Release: Introduced normal, Light, Dark, Spectral, and Shadow Mummies.
