Mummies are Hardmode enemies that spawn in the Desert biome and areas where Sand Blocks are present. They follow the Fighter AI, behaving similarly to Zombies.
There are several different types of Mummies: the standard Mummy, as well as the Dark Mummy, Light Mummy, and Blood Mummy. They spawn in Corrupted Deserts, Hallowed Deserts and Crimson Deserts, respectively.
Dark Mummies and Blood Mummies are 150% faster than other Mummies. All mummies receive a 200% speed increase when they are reduced to 50% health or lower. In addition, Mummies inflict the following debuffs upon hitting the player:

Notes
- Dark Mummies and Blood Mummies can drop the Megaphone and Blindfold at the same time. The chance of these two 1/100 events happening is 1/10000 (0.01%).
- Mummies only require a respective sand block (regular Sand, Ebonsand, Crimsand, or Pearlsand Block) to spawn, it does not necessarily have to be in a Desert biome.[1]
Tips
- Dark, Blood and Light Mummies can easily be farmed for their shards by making a section of Desert evil or Hallow, or making an artificial Desert. All that is necessary is a one-wide flat surface of Pearlsand, Ebonsand, or Crimsand.
Trivia
- The mummies in Terraria are bound incorrectly: In Ancient Egypt, the feet of the mummies were bound together and their hands were bound on their sides. However, in Terraria (and almost every other fictional work), the hands and feet of the mummies are unbound so that they can move freely.
Bestiary entries
- Mummy, Dark Mummy, and Light Mummy: "With the sands transmogrified by outside forces, those put to rest in the desert, whether good or evil, now rise to maim and kill."
- Blood Mummy: "The blood-dripping organic matter in these mummies display far better preservation than the rest of their ilk."
